Daniel J. Watts is currently performing in Whorl Inside a Loop at Second Stage Theater in New York City, extended until September 27th, 2015. He shares with The Pickwyck his beginnings as an actor, what attracted him to this play and his favorite spot in New York.
Where did you grow up? Do you have a theatrical family?
Tell us about your first car, first job as a teenager and first acting job.
Tell us about your role(s) in Whorl Inside A Loop. From what I understand about the show, there are six characters who play multiple characters of different ages, races and genders. Could you tell us about the different characters you play? How do you think this format of playing multiple characters ties into the general perception of the world around us (especially in the legal system).
From the context of the play, in your opinion, why is it so alluring to tell your own story and share it with others? (For the record, most forms of art do just that, but since this play has a revolving door of stories, I would like your personal take on it)
How did you come about this play and what attracted you to the role? What was the rehearsal process like?
What has the audience reception been like so far? What would you like the audience to leave with?
If you could star in your choice of show, who would you want as your costar and why? (Or you can reflect on a past show you have performed in, taking on the same or a different role!)
What are you most passionate about in your own life?
Who would you want to be your "Freaky Friday"?
What is your favorite book, TV show, movie?
What is your favorite NYC spot?
